LOVELAND BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS TELL GOVERNOR’S TASK FORCE THAT FRACKING IS MAKING COLORADO BETTER

Full-page Newspaper Ad Asks Task Force to Protect the Regulations Already in Place

LOVELAND (November 19, 2014) — More than 25 business and community leaders in Loveland have signed an open letter to Governor John Hickenlooper’s task force on oil and gas in support of hydraulic fracturing and the already stringent regulations that govern the industry in Colorado.

The letter, which also will appear in a full-page advertisement in Thursday’s Loveland Reporter-Herald, says that hydraulic fracturing is making Colorado better by helping to support more than 100,000 good-paying jobs and weaning the country off foreign oil supplies.

The ad, sponsored by Vital for Colorado and the Consumer Energy Alliance, is signed by business and community leaders in Loveland, including former state lawmakers Don Marostica and B.J. Nikkel; Loveland Mayor Pro Tem Dave Clark; city council members John Fogle and Troy D. Krenning; and business leaders such as Troy McWhinney and Mindy McGloughan.

“We think you’ll find that in Loveland, we get it,” the letter reads. “We understand that it’s possible to protect our environment and community health, while still developing our natural resources in a safe and effective manner.

“Our message to you is simple: Colorado has tough, comprehensive rules governing oil and gas development; fracking is making Colorado better, growing our economy and making our country less dependent on Middle Eastern energy; and our overall approach to oil and gas development is working. Protect it.”

Loveland voters this past June voted against a ban on hydraulic fracturing.

“Our city served as a model for other communities of what can happen when voters receive good information that allows them to make informed decisions and helps clear the fog of deception and fear wrought by activists,” the letter reads.

The governor’s 19-member task force will meet in Loveland Thursday and Friday of this week.
